UPDATE 11.26.2014: The re-rigging of these puppets has been comprised by using the set-up machine. I did not want to pay to get the bad rigs that were re-released, but a friend let me tinker with them in Maya. The Body Mechanics Rig Pack were robust before using Rapid Rigger, but the guy who wrote Rapid Rigger will not allow anyone to use his plugin to resell a rig. It's unfortunate.
These rigs will get you halfway there, but if you are doing anything complicated... forget it. The limitations of The Set-up Machine's rigging system for the body cannot handle enough joints to create nice deformations, pins or complex switches. This is why I am taking these rigs down from 5 starts to 3. This is also why I am not a fan of the Long Winter Studio rigs because they use TSM for the body and it limits the controls and deformations. The Set-up Machine has an impressive toolset for facial rigging, but they really need to work on their body rigging toolset.
BOTTOM LINE: These rigs will still do the job, but my bet is someone will release better rigs soon using their own rigging system.

POSTED 9/1/2014: There are so many free rigs out there and everyone seems to just post them without actually trying or testing them. I just tested these rigs myself and the Body Mechanics Rigs are an impressive collection for teaching, learning and basic body mechanics work.
The Body Mechanics Rigs by Joe Daniel have only one issue I can find... the default spine. If you select all of the controls and try to rotate the default spine, the shape is broken. My advice: turn on the FK spine and work from there and you can create appealing pleasing shapes. Quickly creating pleasing shapes is very important when teaching or just learning how to pose a CG character.
