The Animation Lead will report to the Director of Digital Creative and lead the animation process across all digital products and content types. This critical role will interface with product managers, marketing/PR, business development and the creative teams within DPW, DCP and TWDC. He or she will have deep skills in children’s user experience across multiple platforms. |
| Responsibilities | • Leads the animation team from conception through execution. Supervises the entire animation pipeline, both 2D and 3D, from storyboards through final execution in apps and other digital products. Directs all animation including character, environment, motion graphics. • Manages the day-to-day of animation team, balancing resources and skills across multiple simultaneous products. Works closely with Producers and Production Manager to balance schedule and budget with both internal and external resources. • Builds and grows the team, proactively identifying and recruiting exemplary candidates as well as mentoring and growing the capabilities of those already on board. Supplements in-house capability by managing a stable of external resources. • Owns and directs every stage of the 2D and 3D animation process, from thumbnails through final render (or use in game). Directs the adaptation of existing elements from still, live action, and animated content sources in order to be used for animation in game. • Manages development of multiple animation pipelines for app creation. Continually reevaluates the animation process to find greater efficiency and improve quality. • Serves as the primary point of contact for animation approvals with Disney partners (Pixar, Disney Animation Studios, Disneytoons, Disney Jr, etc), as well as 3rd party developers, and internal resources. • Collaborates deeply with game designers, visual designers, and producers to use animation efficiently in the service of innovative gameplay and inventive storytelling experiences. |
| Basic Qualifications | • Minimum 10 years experience in animation, 2D and/or 3D, on feature film, tv, or games. • Minimum 5 years leading a team, balancing resources against tight deadlines while maintaining excellent quality standards. • Experience in children's content creation and deployment. • Experience in app development or a fast-paced production environment strongly preferred. • Creative genius, able to lead ideation based on product/creative strategy. • Experience working with a diversity of pipelines (2D and 3D), repurposing existing assets and creating from scratch. • Great product sense, and strong collaborative leader. • Excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing, with proven ability to pitch and present to a diversity of audiences. • Expert level knowledge of animation production, with knowledge of the constraints mobile device design, and how to circumvent them in creative ways. Expert user of animation software, 2D (Toon Boom, Flash, After Effects, etc) and/or 3D (Maya, 3DsMax, etc). Familiarity with Unity strongly preferred. • Ability to multi-task and be accountable for project outcomes. • Mix fun with innovation. |
